The Colorado fir or White Fir is a magnificent conifer of pyramidal shape which can be used in diverse ways. In California, where this plant is native it will reach a height of 40 m. In our latitudes the Abies concolor will not exceed 25 m when fully-grown and its diameter will be just about 3 to 4 m. This makes it suitable for our gardens. The branches grow horizontally and slightly upward at the tips. The finger-long needles vary according to type from blue-green to gray-green. They sit around the branch. After a quite plain blossom reddish-brown, cylindrical cones develop, which grow upward, as usual with all firs.
